Chinese Bodywork Techniques

Tuina
Tuina is a therapeutic form of massage that includes therapeutic rhythmic compression techniques that facilitate healing. Tuina enhances lymphatic circulation to ease pain and stagnation in the body.
Guasha
Guasha is a technique where a stone, jade or spoon is used as as a tool to apply pressured strokes over an area of the body. This “scraping” technique increases circulation to the area, decreases swelling and eliminates toxins.
Cupping Therapy
Cupping therapy is a technique where suctioned cups are placed on the skin to promote circulation, alleviate tension and decrease pain.

Heat Therapies

Moxibustion
Moxibustion is also a technique used where artemesia vulgaris (mugwort) is heated over an acupuncture point or specific area of the body for therapeutic purposes. It’s soothing and warming nature can alleviate a variety of concerns.
Hot Stone Therapy
Hot stone therapy is a method that incorporates hot stones that are placed and moved on certain acupuncture points or meridians (energy pathways). The warm stones penetrate the muscles allowing pain relief, a decrease in muscle tension and enhancing proper flow of the meridian system.

Are Any of These Techniques Painful?

Although not painful by practice, there may be some discomfort with some of the techniques we use. For example, none of the techniques we use for heat therapy will be hot enough to cause pain, but for some who are more sensitive to temperatures, they may cause slight discomfort. Please always let your practitioner know how you feel so we can adjust the treatment to meet your needs and comfort.

Are All Techniques Equally Effective?

The short answer no. All of these treatments are proven effective in curing certain illnesses and diseases. However, not all treatments will have the same level of effectiveness, depending on what specific ailment you have.
