MEET HALIE CAREY, MA, LMHCA
Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate
(she/her)
Halie is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate wo passionate about supporting individuals with chronic health issues or disabilities to navigate the intersections of their physical, cognitive, and emotional health. She believes in supporting clients with their well-being from an integrative wrap-around care perspective that focused on addressing the roots of the concerns while also supporting symptom relief is essential to providing the best care for the client.
Halie spent much of her early life experiencing physical challenges and navigating the medical system due to a physical disability diagnosed when she was three. From this experience, she learned two important things: First, she knew she wanted to care for and support others in living the lives they desire, regardless of the challenges they face, just as many doctors and therapists had helped her do. Second, she recognized gaps in the traditional Western medical system and realized that helping others take control of their lives and proactively care for their needs, rather than merely reacting to symptoms, is crucial for thriving rather than just surviving. Halie explored careers in social for six years before she made the decision to return to school at Bastyr University once she realized that counseling was a space where she could provide the type of client-centered care that she was passionate about. From Halie’s own experiences, she believes that counseling work is not just about the love and care we work to give to ourselves in session but about learning how to invite more self-love and care into our day-to-day lives. Halie does so by spending time with her dog, friends and family, in nature, dancing, painting, and eating delicious foods.
